This position is responsible to perform all of the construction functions required to build new and/or or repair existing municipal water and sewer lines. Technicians work from detailed engineering prints to locate and assemble main lines, distribution lines, cutoff valves, hydrants, service connections, etc.  This position regularly operates heavy equipment used to excavate for the water and sewer pipe specified by the project engineer.  The same technicians assemble and glue the pipe together, place it in the trench, perform pressure testing and then restore the cover above the pipe to its original condition.  During times of equipment inactivity the person holding this position is expected to assist other employees performing manual labor as directed by the designated Crew Leader.  This is an outdoor job.  A successful candidate should expect to work in all kinds of Texas weather extremes except rain and extremely cold weather.


It is preferred that a successful candidate have a current and valid TCEQ Class D Water License. A hired candidate, with supportable municipal utility construction experience, that does not have a current Class D water license must agree to study and obtain a TCEQ Class D Water License within a period of six (6) months.  Failure to fulfill this licensing requirement may lead to dismissal


A candidate must pass a background check and submit to a substance screening test


A successful candidate must be proficient in the regular operation of backhoes, excavators and trenchers. Successful applicants may also be asked to demonstrate their skills in operating common construction equipment in realistic construction situations.


Job Responsibilities

This position is part of a construction crew.       These teams expect and rely on each member to be punctual about arriving to work on time, keeping personal time-off to a minimum, personal phone calls to a minimum and that each and every crew member carries his/her own weight.

 Employees working in this position must be constantly vigilant about following company, city, state and OSHA safety rules. This kind of work can be dangerous if an employee takes shortcuts or becomes inattentive.

 An employee in this position will be cross-trained to perform all of the functions required to build or repair municipal water and sewer lines.

 An employee working in this position will operate backhoes, large excavators, various trenchers and hand tools during the course of a project.

 Overtime and work related travel may be required      

While performing the position Equipment Operator - Housley Communications, Inc., it is occasionally necessary to bend, squat, kneel, balance. It is frequently necessary to reach above shoulder level, crouch, push/pull equipment.  It is frequently necessary to climb up to 6 feet.  In an 8 hour day, the employee can expect to sit about 4 hours and to stand about 3 hours.


The employee would occasionally be required to carry loads up to and including 100 lbs. and the employee would frequently be required to carry loads up to and including 50 lbs.


The employee would occasionally be required to lift loads up to and including 100 lbs. and the employee would frequently be required to lift loads up to and including 50 lbs.


The job requires repetitive movement of both feet. Simple grasping with both hands is necessary.  Fine manipulation with both hands is necessary.  Firm grasping with both hands is necessary.


The position of Equipment Operator - Housley Communications, Inc. also requires being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature/humidity, driving automotive equipment, exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
